History
The Legaspi Eye Center started on 1994 as the private clinic of Dr. Rollo C. Milante, who started his private practice in ophthalmology after finishing his residency at the Santo Tomas University Hospital on 1991. As he first wanted to undergo a fellowship in Oculoplasty, the thought of starting the Eye center was remote. However, as his aspirations to have the fellowship was not realized, he started to practice as a general ophthalmologist. As the years went by in his practice, he saw the need to provide ophthalmic care in his hometown province in Albay. The work began in 1993 when construction started at the Legaspi Eye Center building at the Imperial Court Subdivision II, in Legaspi City.
As his practice had a steady and exponential increase in his patient base, he saw the need to expand the services to not only to those who can afford such services, but to the indigent people in the Bicol region and also to the nearby regions. To cater to such an expansion, he saw the need to relocate the Eye Center to a more convenient and larger place to accommodate the increasing number of patients, and to recruit other ophthalmologist with clinical training in
the different subspecialties of ophthalmology. It is with this aspirations that the present group in the Legaspi Eye Center was formed.
The different ophthalmologist recruited are graduates of the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine and Surgery, the oldest and most prestigious medical school in the Philippines, the Alma Mater of the Philippine National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, who is also an 0phthalmologist. They have trained in the University of Santo Tomas Hospital and the St. Lukes Medical Center for their residency training, with most of our subspecialists undergoing further clinical or research training in prestigious centers here in Asia and North America. |
